What we collect
We store your email address, council, postcode, address and UPRN so we can send bin-day reminders.
Why we collect it
Data is used to deliver reminder emails, show your reminder settings in your dashboard, and decide whether local service updates are relevant to your address.
Local service updates
BinsOut may include occasional council or utility updates in bin reminder emails, such as road closures, collection disruptions or recycling changes. We use your council and postcode to decide whether an update is relevant. We do not share your personal data with the council, utility or message source to do this.
You can turn local service updates off from your dashboard preferences while keeping bin reminders active.
Analytics
We use self-hosted, cookie-free analytics (Umami) to understand how the site is used. This collects anonymous page-view counts and does not track you personally or across sites.
For approved campaign links, we also record the campaign, source, medium, optional content label, council and completed signup stage. These details are held in your browser session for up to seven days so they can follow the lookup and signup steps. If you submit the form, the same details are kept with the 24-hour email-confirmation record until you confirm or it expires. We do not add a visitor ID, user ID, email, postcode, address, IP address or referrer to the campaign event records.
Push notifications
If you enable push notifications, we store a device token so we can send bin-day reminders to your phone. This token is linked to your account and deleted when you disable notifications or delete your account. We use Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) and Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to deliver these messages.
Service providers
We use service providers to deliver email and push notifications, provide optional Google or Apple sign-in, and process an optional Supporter payment. They receive only the information needed to provide the feature you choose. We do not send resident details to councils, community partners or advertisers.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data. We do not share personal data with third-party advertisers. We do not use tracking cookies.
Retention and deletion
Anonymous campaign event records are deleted after 90 days. They cannot be linked back to an account because they do not contain an account or visitor identifier.
You can delete your account and associated data from your dashboard at any time.
If you need access help, use the account deletion help page: /delete-account.
Security
We use HTTPS and standard application security controls to protect your data in transit and at rest.
